LG washer error codes, read and then proven, in Olympia

Water sits in the drum, the pump stays quiet, and the display reads OE. On an LG washer that code names the drain circuit, not the broken part.

How an LG washer talks about trouble

● LG · washer codes

An LG washer reports trouble with a short code in the time window, two or three characters such as OE, IE, UE or dE. Some front-loaders use a numeric twin instead, so E03 and OE describe the same drain complaint. The control sets a code when a reading misses its target inside a set time: the water level never rose, the pump never pulled it down, the door lock never confirmed. That is useful, and it is also the limit. A code tells us which circuit failed its own test. It cannot tell a sock lodged at the pump from a pinched drain line, a worn lock or a relay on the board. Our technicians read the code first, then prove the cause with a meter.

A handful of LG codes lead our washer calls in Olympia, Lacey and Tumwater. Sud and the UE spin pause follow detergent habits: Olympia’s city water is soft, so a full cap of HE detergent makes far more foam than the bottle assumes, and heavy foam upsets the balance check. IE shows up where the supply carries grit, whether it comes from a rural well out toward Littlerock or from one of the few Lacey city wells with a little extra iron and manganese. Sediment packs the inlet screens and slows the fill. OE follows lint, hair and coins at the pump filter, plus debris from mildewed door boots in damp garage laundries. FF and PF arrive with cold snaps and windstorm outages.

LG washer codes, what they mean and what to try

CodeWhat it meansSafe first checkWhen to call us
LG · IE / E02Tub did not reach its fill level in the allotted time.Open faucets fully and unkink hoses; with faucets off, rinse the inlet screens.Strong faucet flow, clean screens, and the fill still crawls.
LG · OE / E03Washer could not drain the wash water.Straighten the drain hose; clean the pump filter as the manual shows.Filter is clear and the pump hums, clicks or stays silent.
LG · UELoad went unbalanced during spin, so the washer slowed down.Redistribute the load, fill about two-thirds, and confirm the washer sits level.UE on light, even loads, or loud knocking during spin.
LG · LEMotor could not turn the drum properly, often from overloading.Remove some laundry, check for coins, then unplug for five minutes.LE on a normal load, or the drum feels stiff by hand.
LG · dE / dE1Door could not lock, so the cycle will not start.Open and firmly re-close the door; clear fabric from the latch.Lock clicks but the code stays, or the door will not release.
LG · CEToo much current in the motor circuit: short, loose connection or surge.Unplug for ten seconds, then start a small load.CE comes back at all, especially right after a power outage.
LG · SudToo much foam detected; the washer paused to clear suds.Use HE detergent only and cut the dose, especially on soft water.Sud on a light dose can mean a drain or sensing fault.
LG · FE / E04Water level went over the limit during the cycle.Unplug for sixty seconds; if water keeps entering, close both faucets.Water flows in with the washer unplugged, pointing to the inlet valve.
LG · PE / E33Water level sensor reading is out of range.Unplug for ten seconds, then restart a short cycle.PE returns; we test the sensor, its hose and wiring.
LG · tEHeating or temperature error, usually traced to the thermistor.Unplug for ten seconds, then restart the cycle.Water never warms, or tE repeats on warm and hot cycles.
LG · AEFront-load: leak sensed inside. Top-load: rotation error, often a coin.Look for drips at the inlet hose ends; unplug sixty seconds.Water under the washer, or AE survives the reset.
LG · FFFreeze failure: the inside temperature dropped below about 34°F.Warm the room and pour warm water into the tub, as LG advises.A hose or valve cracked in the cold, or FF after thawing.
LG · PFPower was lost partway through the cycle.Unplug, hold START/PAUSE five seconds, plug back in and restart.PF after every outage, or PF with no outage at all.

Resetting an LG washer without erasing the clue

LG’s own reset is short: unplug the washer or switch off its breaker, press and hold START/PAUSE for five seconds while it has no power, then plug back in for a brief test cycle. For CE, PE and tE, LG suggests ten seconds unplugged; for FE and AE, sixty. A reset is the right tool when a single code follows an outage or a brief glitch. It is the wrong move when water covers the floor, when FE shows and water keeps coming in with the plug pulled, or when the same code returns on the next load. Clearing a repeat code only wipes away the clue we need.

What an LG washer visit looks like here

Mention the code as you book and, if you can, photograph the model and serial sticker. Our technician arrives in the window we text you, confirms the code, then tests the part it points to: pump windings, lock switch, inlet valve coils, pressure sensor. Next comes the culprit by name and a single price in writing. Accept it, and the $99 diagnostic merges into the repair figure; wave it off, and the visit costs $99, full stop. Most LG washer parts ride on our vans, from Tanglewilde to Tumwater Hill; a special-order part means we return to install it, and that return carries no trip fee of its own.

Have the code handy as you reach out; our crew brings the meter, and a yes to the repair turns the $99 diagnosis into part of its total. Request service →

LG washer code questions

Why does my LG washer show OE when the drain hose looks fine?

The hose is only one of several places water can stall. The pump filter behind the small lower access door catches coins, hair ties and lint; the pump itself can seize or fail electrically; and a standpipe can clog inside the wall. Clean the filter first, with towels down. If OE returns, our technicians measure the pump and run it on test to find where the water stops.

Is Sud on an LG washer a real error or a detergent problem?

Usually detergent. Olympia’s city supply is soft, which lets an ordinary cap of HE detergent whip up far more lather than the label expects. The washer senses it, pauses and adds rinses, which stretches the cycle. Try about half your usual HE dose for a week. If Sud keeps appearing on a light dose, a slow drain or a pressure sensing fault can mimic suds, and that deserves a visit.

Is it safe to keep running an LG washer after a CE code?

Once, after a ten-second unplug. CE means the control saw more current in the motor circuit than it allows, which can follow a surge when PSE restores service after a windstorm. If CE returns, stop there. Repeated overcurrent points to a wiring fault, a motor problem or a control board issue, and running it again can widen the damage and the repair.

Why does my LG washer in Lacey show IE when the faucets are wide open?

Open faucets do not guarantee flow. Lacey’s city wells range from soft to moderately hard; in a handful, iron and manganese run a shade over the aesthetic guideline, and private wells can carry more. That grit settles on the inlet screens where the hoses meet the washer. Close the faucets, remove the hoses and rinse the screens. If the fill still crawls, we test the inlet valve and level sensor.

What does FF mean on an LG washer in a Tumwater garage?

FF is LG’s freeze failure code: the washer measured an inside temperature below about 34°F. The Olympia area sees roughly 78 freezing nights a year, and an unheated garage can drop that low. Warm the space and pour warm water into the tub as LG advises. If a hose or inlet valve cracked in the cold, our technicians replace it and check every connection for leaks.
