Samsung washer codes in Lacey and Olympia, C and E alike

A newer Samsung front-loader in Hawks Prairie shows 4C; an older one on Olympia’s Eastside shows 4E. Both mean water is not coming in.

Why one Samsung fault wears several codes

● Samsung · washer codes

Samsung groups its washer codes into families, and each family carries several spellings. The not-filling family includes 4C, 4E and nF; the no-drain family includes 5C, 5E and nd. Newer models tend to end in C, older ones in E, some add a leading 1, and a few use blinking lights in place of text. The spelling changes; the meaning does not. What a family gives you is the circuit that failed its check, such as fill, drain, lock or balance. It does not say whether the cause is a closed valve, a clogged filter, a worn inlet valve or a control board. Our technicians read the family, then test the parts inside it before anything gets replaced.

Our Samsung washer calls in Olympia, Lacey and Tumwater cluster around four families. 4C leads where homes outside city limits draw from their own wells, and on the few Lacey city wells slightly high in iron and manganese, where sediment narrows the inlet screens. SUd comes from the opposite water: Olympia’s soft city supply makes HE detergent foam hard. 5C follows lint, hair and coins at the drain filter, and a damp garage laundry adds mildewed debris from the door boot. After a windstorm drops PSE service, voltage codes such as 9C1 and PF can appear as power comes back unevenly. Most are one-off events. A voltage code that sticks deserves a meter.

Samsung washer code families at a glance

CodeWhat it meansSafe first checkWhen to call us
Samsung · 4C / 4E / nFWater is not entering the washer correctly.Open both valves fully; check hose connections and drain hose position.Valves open, hoses straight, and the tub still fills slowly.
Samsung · 4C2 / 4E2Cold supply reads extremely hot, so hoses are likely swapped. With valves closed, confirm blue goes to cold and red to hot.Hoses are correct and the hot and cold error persists.
Samsung · 5C / 5E / ndWater is draining too slowly or not at all.Straighten the drain hose; clean the drain filter as the manual shows.Filter is clean and the pump stays silent or only hums.
Samsung · OE / OCOverflow: there is too much water in the washer.Stop the cycle; if water keeps entering, close both supply valves.Water rises with the washer off, or OC returns next load.
Samsung · LE / LC / 1EWater level or leakage error: moisture where it should not be, or sensor trouble.Look for leaks and kinked hoses; run an empty cycle to check for suds.Water under the washer, or LC returns on a dry floor.
Samsung · UE / Ub / UrLoad inside the tub is unbalanced.Rearrange the laundry for better balance, then restart the cycle.UE on small, even loads, or the tub bangs during spin.
Samsung · dE / dS / dLDoor is not detected as closed and locked.Check the latch, remove caught fabric, and close the door firmly.Door closes cleanly but the lock will not confirm.
Samsung · SUd / SdWasher detected an over-sudsing condition.Use HE detergent at a lighter dose; Samsung says no service needed.SUd keeps appearing on a light dose with slow draining.
Samsung · 3E / 3CMotor error reported by the control.Power off two to three minutes, then restart the cycle.3C returns; we test the motor, its sensor and wiring.
Samsung · 9C1 / PF / UCIrregular electrical current is reaching the washer.Confirm it has its own circuit and no extension cord.Code follows every outage, or appears while the lights stay steady.
Samsung · E2 / bE2A panel button reads as stuck or held down.Power off, then press and release each button one at a time.A button stays dead or the code comes right back.
Samsung · tE / tCTemperature sensor error flagged by the control.Switch off for two to three minutes and run the cycle again.tC repeats; we test the sensor and its harness.
Samsung · HE / HCHeater error flagged by the control.Leave it off two to three minutes before trying the cycle again.HC returns on warm or sanitizing cycles.
Samsung · AE / ACCommunication error between internal control components.Power off two to three minutes, then restart.AC returns; we check connectors, harness and boards.

Resetting a Samsung washer, and when not to

Samsung’s general reset is simple: power the washer off, wait two to three minutes, power it on and restart the cycle. For a stuck button, work each key while the machine is off. Two exceptions matter. If dn shows, the washer is downloading an update, so leave it powered for about fifteen minutes. If CL appears after the tub drained, that is Child Lock, not a fault. A reset is the wrong move when water is spreading across the floor, when OC or LC points to water where it should not be, or when a voltage code returns on its own. Those need a test, not another restart.

How we handle a Samsung washer code on site

Tell us the exact letters when you book, since 4C and 4C2 lead to different parts. Our technician reads the code, tests the part behind it with a meter, and names the culprit in plain words: inlet valve, drain pump, door lock, hall sensor, control board. Next you see the full cost on paper. Sign off and that sum already carries the $99; pass, and the $99 settles the call while we pack up. Most Samsung washer parts come off the van. If yours must be ordered, the return visit to install it adds no new trip fee, whether the washer sits in Hawks Prairie or Bush Prairie.

Send the letters, not only the symptom, and our team arrives ready; once you okay the price on paper, the $99 diagnostic is simply one line of the repair total. Request service →

Samsung washer code questions

What is the difference between 4C and 4C2 on a Samsung washer?

4C means water is not entering correctly: a closed valve, a kinked hose, clogged inlet screens or a failing inlet valve. 4C2 means the cold supply reads very hot, which usually means the hoses are swapped at the valves. Check that blue goes to cold and red to hot. If the hoses are right and 4C2 persists, we test the valve and the water temperature sensing.

Why does my Samsung washer show SUd in Olympia?

Olympia’s city water, drawn mainly from the McAllister Wellfield, is soft. In soft water, detergent foams far more than the dose printed on the bottle assumes. Use HE detergent only and start with about half. Samsung notes this code usually needs no service. If SUd keeps showing on a light dose, a slow drain may be holding foamy water in the tub, and that we can test.

Is a 5C code on a Samsung washer a failed pump?

Sometimes, but rule out the simple causes first. A kinked drain hose or a drain filter packed with lint, hair and coins will set 5C on a healthy pump. Clean the filter as your manual describes, with towels down. If the tub still holds water, our technician listens to the pump, measures it, and checks the drain path before naming a part.

Does 9C1 on a Samsung washer after a Tumwater outage mean damage?

A single 9C1 after power returns is common: it means the washer saw irregular voltage. Make sure it has its own circuit and no extension cord, then run a normal load. One code is usually the end of it. If 9C1 keeps coming back on calm days, or after every storm, we check the supply at the outlet and the washer’s control to find which side is at fault.

Why does my Samsung washer in a damp Lacey garage show LC?

LC belongs to the water level and leakage family: moisture was detected where it should not be, or a sensor misread. Garages that stay damp through Lacey’s wet months can keep the base of the washer wet, and a leaking hose adds more. Look for drips at the hose ends and run an empty cycle. If LC returns on a dry floor, we trace the sensor and wiring.
